Possibility of venomous snakes in yard?

This is our first year in a new house. I love nature and am enjoying the finds among which have been three different snakes. One was a black racer, not terribly large and headed the other way when we discovered each other. The second was a tiny ring neck snake, in the pool! The third was considerably larger and unidentified. Rather than going away when we saw it, it shook its tail and then came toward us.
Our back yard is pretty large and has lots of ground cover, trees and a couple of wood piles. Plenty of area for them to hang out.
Two questions:
Is it likely for us to encounter venomous snakes in our yard?
Would it be advisable for us to put down a snake repellant around the house?
We live in central FL
