Coyotes don't eat Opposums?
Comments (3)Coyotes will not eat anything that they think might harm them. If the Opossum was well it would have been gone by now. Yesterday, sorry I do not remember the site, I was reading that the use of high powered rat/mouse baits, warfarin, are believed to be causing deaths of other animals and birds up the food chain. The suggestion was that hawks, owls and other predator's were eating the rodents that had consumed the poison. Since the poison remained in the rodent it passed to the predator and so on down the line. The big question that remained unanswered was why were deer and other non-meat eaters being found with high amounts of the same chemical in their blood. My thought was the decaying bodies released the substance into the ground, which then went into the water systems. It could be possible that because your opossum eats anything it finds that it may have eaten animals that had died or were dying from the poison....See MoreFox/Coyote ? Possibly young or just small

Comments (9)Thanks for asking Denise Yes, I tried the local wild animal rehab center and they said it looks like the fox has mange/scabies which is very contageous. They will not allow the animal in the facility in the advanced state. They did suggest I contact my local police dept to shoot it, the only problem is I haven't seen it in a few days and I can't assure them the fox will be here long enough for them to respond. The Fish & Game dept suggested I find a friend with a small calibre (.22) gun to dispatch it for me - they will offer a one time permit to eliminate this particualr animal. Of course, with the heavy rains the last few days it seems to have gone back into the woods behind my house and I haven't seen it. Both people I spoke to suggested it might go into the woods to die and it would be gone no matter what. So I guess I wait and watch Thanks again for the response Alexa...See MoreWile E Coyote
Comments (40)Last night around 11:00 I walked from the house to the barn, and brought a flashlight with me. As I walked along the driveway I shone the flashlight down the hill toward the edge of the woods about 100 feet away, and saw several pairs of eyes shining back at me. I realize now they were probably white-tailed deer, watching carefully to see whether/when they should run away, but at the time I was convinced they were coyotes watching for me to turn my back so they could make their move. I found a site that lists the "eyeshine" color of various animals, and for deer it says "Silvery with green or yellow tinge" and for coyote is says "Yellow-green", so that's not very helpful. Also I just noticed that later on in that list it included the following: Mammal....................... Seals............ Red......Dull Reptile...........................Alligator.........Red..... Bright Red-orange to bright pink Other.............................Bigfoot...........Red Other.............................Vampire.........Red Good to know in case I'm ever in Bigfoot country or Transylvania...See Morejgrow
