Holy Crap! 'Possum in the garage!
Comments (44)Once when my kids were little my son came running outside and said Mommy there is a HUGH rat in your bedroom, now it being daylight I am thinking he just THINKS he sees something and it is the 'lighting' or something but NOOOO he INSISTED there is something in my bedroom. MY fiancee is about to leave so I mozey my keyster in the house to my bedroom and GOOD GRIEF IT'S A POSSUM IN MY ROOM! And it is on my dresser at the moment. I do a quick 180 and run out to chase SO down and tell him he better be getting his hinney in here to get this thing OUT of my bedroom. He gets the broom and had removed the screen from the bedroom window HOPING it will jump out, but nope, it turns ever so slowly and WALKS back across the dresser, onto the windowsill, onto the headboard of my bed and disappears! OMG WHERE DID THE CRITTER GO???? Albeit it was a baby BUT it WAS a possum none the less, turns out there is a hole in the floor under our bed the little critter crawled through to come in. A mama possum had set-up a home underneath the mobile home and had actually gotten into the walls and maybe the ceiling too, I heard noises there ALL the time. I kept telling him SOMETHING BIG was in the walls, ceiling, FLOOR, under the trailer and HE always said it was stray cats I KNEW with the size of the sound I kept hearing it wasn't a cat! At any rate when the baby possum made it's appearance he finally figured out that was the sound (the mama possum) I had been hearing, he patched the hole so no more would come in and when we moved out I am assuming mama possum and more babies lived there long after we did! I am SOOOO glad I am not the only one who had a possum INSIDE their home! I just thought it was CREEPY!!! It was a cute little baby, but NOT IN MY BEDROOM! And it darn near terrified my son, he really thought it was a LARGE rat...poor kid, guess I would have too at 6 years old! He really wasn't far off either huh? :) Fran...See MoreTomatoes being eaten whole!
Comments (28)Rats ugghh. Two years ago I put in two 3'sq tomato raised beds at my parents house in Orange county. The first year we cleared and dug the clay, built the boxes, amended with pricy organics, planted heirlooms that grew huge, out of the texas cages and out over the box, and as they ripened each tomato would get about 1/3 eaten. (Why can't the pests just eat one whole one and leave two?) I put 5' posts at the corners of the boxes, and the enclosed the plants completey with heavy duty plastic bird netting. This took at least a day of sweat and swearing! After a few days we found that the rats just gnawed right through and continued to help themselves. Last year I only planted two Patio red tomatoes, not as tasty but very compact and produce well. The plants hardly grew larger than the texas cages, and as the tomatos started to redden I bought AVIARY wire, smaller than chicken wire, and wrapped it around the cages, making a closed cone top, and a door in the wire to access the plants. Also making sure that the wire screen is deep into the ground to prevent burrowing. This worked really well and we were able to harvest all the tomatoes ourselves! This year I have some patios and some celebritys in the boxes, I put them in late so no fruit yet. I plan to build a larger frame and enclose it all in aviary wire. The stuff is expensive, and I don't even want to calculate the price per tomato of this whole process. But it is a labor of love because my mother enjoys fresh tomatoes so very much. I believe that everyone should grow at least some of their own vegies, like victory gardens. My grandfather did this close to what is now LAX, and though he had some unwanted pests, and I remember he would trap and kill them, nothing like what the problem is for us now. But in urban areas like Orange county the possums, coons, squirels, voles gophers and lovely rats can wipe out all your work in a night. There are also lots of coyotes around, enough that it is not safe to let the cats out, when I was a kid and our cats roamed the roof and garden day and night, and that probably discouraged rats! It is frustrating. It has only gotten worse as the last of the open spaces get built on, which nixes the theory that this things are wild and only venture to our yards and trash cans for supplimentary feeding. These are all totally urban animals, surviving with no "natural" habitat....See Moreneighbor's cat in my back yard all the time(m)
Comments (45)I live in a rural area that has no cat bylaws. I wrote my neighbor a very respectful letter outlining the damage her cats are doing in my yard . This is the second time I have asked her nicely . Her cats have sprayed all over my porch, defecated in my garden and dug up new lawn to use as a litterbox. I have had to reach my garden soil with gravel and pull out plants. The cats are now digging and defecating along the side of my house. I have tried to use humane deterrents to no avail . I agree on the trespassing but where I live you would have no chance of prosecution. I would have to go civilly and that costs a fortune. On top of all this, the person has dogs that are holding the neighborhood hostage . We contemplated selling our dream retirement home. My wife is in tears and she's my sweetie. We have been together 62 years. No one messes with my sweetie. I thought about the 1 plus 1 rule. Where the person violates one rule ...there must be other violations. I used to be in law enforcement ...its been a long time. I felt like that Clint Eastwood in Grand Torino....good movie . I am game for Fluffy's owner doing 15 to 20 in the slammer for 3 strikes, but I think civil liberties might have something to say about that. So am utilizing every bylaw and law to take this neighbor to task . So far , they will have to rip out fence they erected in greenbelt, rip down at least 4 encroaching buildings and redo the fencing. This neighbor is facing penalties for other issues that are going to cost them thousands of dollars. Bylaws is all over the dog situation and other neighbors are now fed up and on board with the whole operation . Oh yes, I should mention there is about to be a stop work order on a bunch of expensive renos this neighbor has done which should amount to thousands too. Do you feel lucky.....damn, I think that was Dirty Harry. I digress. There should be laws that require cat owners to keep them indoors or confined to their yard ( I don't really give a hoot how they accomplish this ...check out Pintrest or something) . I also think they should have mandatory licensing and rabies vaccines for cats...just like dogs. Maybe people also....too far? This neighbor also gets multiple cats of both genders and fails to spay or neuter them. This is reprehensible. Outdoor cats have a short lifepan here because of the wildlife , but this neighbor just gets new cats ( or they are being manufactured....who the heck knows) . It seems they are disposable. Disgusting because its just plain wrong . Did I mention that animal welfare is involved?I have no idea who called them ...my Motorola brick phone was on the fritz last week. I should really get one of those new fangled flip phones . Then I could post on Space Page...or is that Face Page ..or Face book....I am too old for this.. None of this is the animals' fault. This is about a totally irresponsible pet owner. Such people claim to be animal lovers . If they cared a whit about Fluffy, they would not let him out to get eaten by coyotes, pick up parasites or get run over by a car. Nope , these people are animal collectors ....big difference . They own the animal much like they own a Ford pickup or an instant pot or maybe a Grand Torino . So there you have it. For these neighbors, life is about to become very expensive . Fluffy and Fido are going to be very expensive . I can now clean up Fluffy's crap, pee and other bodily fluids with a sense of satisfaction. My sweetie feels a bit better now and she's back to making me those morning glory muffins with my coffee. Recipe is on Pintrest folks ...just reduce the cinnamon a tad. It gives me gas. This whole Fluffy and Fido thing ...this too shall pass. Just like the muffins . My grandson says I should just chill. I told him I just put on a sweater because my circulation bad....See More94 grand am stalls
Comments (11)Hello, Just joined the site & at first I thought I found a site where MOST of the members that do the MAJORITY of posting where nice, courtious, and most of all KNOWELDGEABLE, yet after reading these responses I've come to the conclusion that it's just another ROMPER ROOM with a few MAIN CHILDREN that think they know it all. Below are the postings that I'm referring to : (1) "" Posted by chad_said (My Page) on Sat, Aug 25, 07 at 10:43 Well, that was a nice bit of ego stroking, but unfortunately talk of Ford flatheads and rebuildable spark plugs has absolutely no relevance to the OP's problem. As for me being a "parts thrower", I suggested a simple visual inspection of a likely problem that takes less than one minute. No parts involved. Perhaps your reading comprehension needs work as well. "" To Child # 1--AKA chad_said: You need help. Your response was at best, the response I'd expect to hear from a rookie hot-shot, (so they think), Engine designer. Unfortunately, I deal with your kind ALL DAY LONG & after 38 Yrs. in the Design phase of Automobile building I've found that when given enough rope...You'll hang yourself. This next guy (child #2) cought my attention because he ACTUALLY BELIVES everything He's saying & I hope to GOD that He gets out of the Automotive repair Business, (if he really is even in the FIeld), and pursues a career that's commensurate to his qualifications, like Toilet Bowl Cleaning. Here is THAT Childs Post.... "" Posted by john_g (My Page) on Sun, Aug 26, 07 at 8:30 Easiest first, a Roll Cab is of course a tool box. Most technicians today have so much invested in their hand tools, that the biggest box at Sears would be terribly inadequate to protect them. If you look at the biggest box Sears sells, you would need three of them for my tool collection, and there would be items that still would not fit. My MATCO Rolling Tool Cabinet (Roll Cab) holds 85% of my things and if you think of it as a safe instead of just a tool box then you are looking at it the right way. In the case of professional theives my tools are still at risk, but if the local crack head tries to get them the most likely result will be them safely in the box, or a senario somewhat similar to a giant rat trap. Back to the OP. Information as given here is exactly enough for me to drive the car and start testing for what is wrong with it. While some things can be thought of as secondary needs, the OP's description leaves sufficient room to expect this problem is not just one thing wrong. Stalling at stops can be caused by a loss of fuel, spark, airflow, or a combination of such. The sluggishness he alludes to might be related to the stall, and yet it might not be. This single detail "could" be related to a fuel supply issue, but frankly there are some details that I would expect to see from the poster, that have not been disclosed yet. If he was here at my shop I would be asking some specific questions to attempt to get a clearer picture of these events. Things like weather conditions, accessory loads, vehicle drive time, details such as if highway driving or intown appear to influence the symptom. One such detail would be if it acts up in a specific area (time) from when first driven, or if mulitple restarts are required before the trouble occurs, or if in fact multiple restarts would make it not occur. These details are so important to getting the car in and fixed the first time that I cannot stress it enough. Presently there is a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer right beside me that got towed in, for a no start. If jumped it would run for a short period of time, and then stall back out. Simple fix right? The alternator was definately bad. However pulling it in the door I noticed it had very poor throttle response. After charging the battery, before replacing the alternator I tested just a little further, this thing is starving for fuel big time. I have to ask myself, why didn't the owner tell me about that? Does she think that the way this was running is only because of the alternator problem? Could she be one of the people I have encountered in the past that will act like this fuel problem was never there before the alternator failed, so it must be something that I caused and try to get it for free? There is no subtitute for proper training, tools, equipment, people, and information. It takes all of them to fix cars correctly. People can guess all they want, and like any guess occasionally they will be correct. A car I worked on recently came in with two seperate problems that caused identical symptoms. The first of the two problems was simple, secondary ignition insulation failure allowing the spark to jump to ground causing a missfire. The second problem was no so simple. A primary computer input was glitching and causing the computer to cut the injector pulse to 1/3rd of what was required to fire a cylinder. The "feel" was identical to an ignition missfire. To satisfy the customer, both of those problems had to be diagnosed and repaired. Otherwise "It still would have been doing the same thing". Oh and I almost forgot this LAUGHABLE description of his " ROLLCAB" Posted by john_g (My Page) on Sun, Aug 26, 07 at 12:08 FWIW my "Tool Box" measures 48ft x 40ft x 14ft. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL WHAT Planet is THIS guy living on ? A FORTY EIGHT x FORTY x FOURTEEN (FOOT) "rollcab" ? Like I said earlier, another ROMPER ROOM and THESE two are probably in the corner more than anyone else. Good Day to all of the REAL posters out there....See Moredanetherton
