Strange Black Cat

I was hunting sitting a Deer Blind, and a black cat ran out of the woods. Now, at first I thought it was a domestic cat, and dismissed it. After taking a close look through the scope, I came to see this wasn't an ordinary cat. It had a beard like a bobcat, was dark brown, about double the size of a house cat, had subtle spots, and a long tail. Could this possibly be the product of a domestic cat breeding with a wild one? I also thought it resembled a wild cat known as Jaguarundi, but I've heard those are extremely rare out here in East Texas. Please tell me if you know what it is.

Also a picture I thought that showed it resembling a baby bobcat. They look similar,. However, the mystery cat was much darker.

It's a fuzzy dark blob.

Judging size of animals is hard unless you can spot them against an object that you can later measure ... unless you can get a good photo with something for scale in the background, it's just a UFO (unidentified feline outdoors).

Intact male domestic felines can have sideburns, especially if they have a bit of longhaired ancestry.

I think he/she will be ok. I had a few of those, sometimes lightly colored or with thin black stripes but when it came out as a butterfly they were fine.

Hi Sylvia, Took Bud in at 4:30 yesterday. They couldn't get a pee sample out of his bladder so they kept him overnight. DH and I felt awful having him stay there. We were there at 8 this morning soon as it opened. We knew he would have pee'd and they'd have a sample so hopefully we could take him home. Otherwise it would have been until 5:30 before we could get him. He does have an infection so they gave him 2 shots which will last 2 weeks. We're to take him in for a follow-up in a couple weeks. So it looks good, and he's real happy to be home! The other cats missed him too.

Blood glucose of 180 in a cat not eating who is urinating in sleep with such dilute urine you can't even smell it sounds like diabetes to me. Diabetics are prone to infection, both systemic and of the urinary tract.

amen to that.....she's definitely a cat....and that's about that!!! however....while travelling, she may find it more comforting to be in a lap, secure, and comforting herself with her own purr.....i had a cat that would curl up and purr while we were on the highway, but when we were driving at city speeds, he would literally do laps around the vehicle trying to look out of every window.....and almost frantic about it!!! i always assumed it was about the smooth engine sounds on the highway and the irregular engine in the city streets....not to mention more turning and braking.... but who knows?? and that doesn't explain why she needs to be in your lap in the morning.....unless she's just a one-person-at-a-time kind of a girl and when your girlfriend wakes up she's overcrowded.....and then when someone is engaged in driving, she feels better..... is that too out there? i'm facinated by kitty behaviour, but i would prefer to just be able to read their minds!!! :) at any rate, i don't think there's anything medically wrong with your cat.....until you notice any physical problems, i think it's safe to assume she's just a fickle flower with mood swings like so many other felines! good luck, and happy travels!!

Apologies for the picture quality. It was evening, and the cat was pretty far away. I tried to describe it as best I can, but can domestic cats really have "manes" like that?

Yes ... Even more so if there's a bit of longhair in the background, and it's winter, and an intact male.

Jaguarundis are long-bodied and short-legged relative to bobcats.
