Bug ID please

I've only recently been seeing lots of these (not the aphids) around my vegetable garden, and I was wondering if they were good, neutral, or kill on sight

Possibly, but the wing pattern does not match. Perhaps a pirate bug of some sort. Besides the wing pattern, important features are short neck, wide-set eyes, and dark, seemingly enlarged final antenna segment.

If you could observe these attacking the aphids, that would be a sign of a beneficial bug.

It's not a stink bug or a leaffooted bug. I did a quick google search and nothing looked like that. I'd leave them be until you can get a proper ID.

Thanks for the lead, Carlo. Per bugguide, the genus Nysius (false chinch bug) is very similar in appearance.
