Huge moth. Canary in a coal mine.

Just discovered this forum. Forgive the quick two posts, and the slightly off-putting theme of possible harm to insects.

I smoked cigarettes in college. I was studying very late, about 2AM one evening on a screened in porch, when a very, very, large moth alit on the screen nearest my table lamp.

Honestly, I did not intend to be so malicious, but I was curious to see how the moth would react to a bit of nicotine laced second hand smoke. I drew a deep one and blew it over the moth through the screen. The poor guy just dropped. Right to the ground. I went outside and he lay there in the garden immobile.

The next morning I went outside and there he was. Stone cold dead. I shivered. One, just one, puff. And not even immersed within it!

I didn't smoke for two days. Of course I went on.. for another three years before quitting.

Tobacco/nicotine is some deadly $#it.
