They are mostly dead but sometimes they aren't...just move very slow.

It looks like mouse poop in the picture. We need some focused close-ups!

Do you store any food products in your basement storage area, particularly grains? I would wonder if they might something like granary or rice weevils. They can find their way into anything short of airtight food containers, then feed, breed, and emerge in alarming numbers.

Ugh...they look like bed bugs. Once you have an infestation of those, you will find them everywhere.

Any stored clothing, as in woolens? Could be carpet beetles.

But that's just a guess until you can post close-ups.

Adult insects go toward the light because they "know" it's the way out. The problem is that no one told them about windows.

Picture please, as close up as possible. Nobody knows what the previous insects were because of lack of photos. (We do know they weren't bedbugs--they don't fly.)

Same here! I did end up finding live action in my pasta but what clued me in were the dead ones in the track of my sliding glass doors as well! Can’t imagine why they were on that side of the house?

The pasta guy is a weevil--look at that cute little snout! Maybe a grain weevil. If you freeze grain stuff for a week or so after purchase, it should kill all the wee beasties inside.
