True 5 Day Cooler

Can anyone reccomend a true 5 day cooler? I am new to leading my family camping (haven't been since I was a kid) and am trying to figure out what cooler to get for weekend trips. I assume they will not be any longer than 5 days and will usually be 3 days. I am not sure of what size to get either. Our family is my wife and I along with a 2 and 4 yo and one on the way in July. Any advice on sizing?

I had purchased a Coleman Xtreme 50-Quart Wheeled Cooler but cancelled the order after I read reviews of it not keeping ice more than 12 hours. Any other knowledge on this one or recomendations on others?

Small chips or cubes of ice just won't last for days in any cooler. Freeze gallon jugs of water (which you can drink as they melt.) No expensive cooler I've ever had works as well as a nice, thick styrofoam one. We like to use 2 smaller ones so we don't have to open the 2nd one at all the first day or two. Freeze any meats you can that you won't need the first day beforehand. Try to have menus that don't require a lot of condiments. Keep the cooler(s) in the shade.

When i was back of pickup camping, i bought several sheets of styrofoam insulation-the semi-hard type, and fashioned a box that i could set the ice box in it. It was the old Coleman type, made and sold many years ago. everything i put in it was already cold and/or frozen. I'd set it in the shade, and it was ok for 2-3 days. Of course, drinking up the liquid, un-frozen stuff, sort of took away from keeping it cold, but I'd rather sacrifice some lunch meat, to keep the beer cold the whole time. Made sense to me.
