Bluebird numbers continue to decline

The harsh winter of last year took its toll on the bluebirds
very few if any returned and not many migrated threw central RI people now have started to ask what happen to
all the bluebirds mother nature has set them back a few generations my season ended with the lowest totals since
1990 when I began my trail work. 21 pairs fledged 141
i have in place 50 nest box's and for years managed over
25 pairs. And never went below 25 pairs. So this was
a record low number and one never seen. I can imagine
threw out the northern states how many nest box's sat empty this spring. We need a mild winter in order to being
back the bluebirds this fall has been dry and i feel we are
infor another harsh winter.
Enjoy the off season and hope for a mild winter
