Dogs are creatures of habit. Do like Brendasue said. Put them on a lease and take them to the wood to do their business. It may take some time but they will eventually do it on their own. I have a friend that lives in Detroit and she wanted a dog but was afraid if it got loose it would get killed in the street. I told her that they are creatures of habit if you would take the dog for a walk twice a day around the block and never cross a street with it-if it for some reason got loose it would only go around the block and back home. One time she thought she had fastened the lease before she opened the door-but she didn't. The dog ran around the block and was behind her before she could get to the first corner try to catch up with it. She was amazed-but that is the nature of the beast!

I also thought about how to kill any coccoons left in my castings when I used them. I plan to use a couple batches soon in some inside plants and don't want the worms to hatch. I do not think they can do any damage to the plants, however. But I do not want any escapees etc. What I thought I would do is what you should NEVER do to a worm bin. Basically put them in a dark, lidded container and let it sit on concrete in the full sun. If you have a balcony at your apt, then that is the perfect place.

yes, the box is well ventilated and in fact, i drilled extra ventilation holes around the top right before they nested in this box. i do feed freeze dried mealworms. however, these babies were still too small for them or for live mealworms, for that matter. i don't think there's a shortage of bugs around here. i often see the blues diving to the ground for bugs. i'm sure by the time the nest is finished and she is ready to lay, there will be a break in the heat. if not, i intend to pack up the dogs and the pot bellied pigs and we are heading to alaska!!

Have had issues with brown sticky bug larvae all over the window screens for a while. Anything I tried to remove it either flat out didn't work , or, worked but also removed the color from the aluminum screen from dark gray to bright aluminum. Finally this fall tried using clorox spray and cleaner for tubs and showers. UNBELIEVABLE!!! Spray the insect larvae from both sides and brush both side with a tooth brush. Wipe clean and repeat. Then brush the whole screen with a dust pan brush and it looks brand new. Also trying another trick of spraying the screens with deep woods off before this happens next year. Supposed to keep the bugs off the screens.
