I don't know if any of you are Project Feeder Watchers, but they have a fascinating section on their website where you can "Explore Data" from the counts. There is one really great feature called the "FeederWatch Map Room". You select a species, season, and region, and then it shows you the number of birds sighted on a map of the region. It is an animated map but you can stop it and step through if you want. Great fun to explore different species or even different parts of North America! Wow ten pairs with eggs?! And I feel like I hit the lottery if I get one pair a year! Good job on your part, maybe you can help me to get more pairs to choose one of our nest boxes and have successful fledglings, which has been rather hard because of so many predators that threaten them and have killed newly hatched eggs or this years issue pulling out eggs and pecking them. Anyway, Im going to start a new thread asking for help once again from all the knowledgeable blue birders here like yourself to help me have more success in our nest boxes this year. Thank you for helping so many blues nest in your boxes, I would love to see that many blue birds in one area, accept in the winter when they are all flocked together in search of food. Good for you! Chris, this is my third year with Bluebirds and will be my third year training them. We never seem to get the same pair back for some reason. Bluebirds are drop feeders meaning they perch somewhere and watch below them for bugs and then drop down on them. You need to watch where you Blues normally perch for bugs. Put a dish of live wiggly worms underneath that perch. Hopefully they will perch there and see the worms, once they find that there are worms in that dish you can slowly move it little by little to wherever you want it. Today is day 2 of trying to train our new blues who now have four eggs and are incubating. They are further away from the house than previous years but hopefully we can get them to find the mealworms. Right now I am putting them under a tree near the nestbox that I see them perching on. So far no takers though, at least the Robins haven't found them either though as unfortuantely they will be trained right along with the Blues. Hopefully ours find them soon as I don't want to leave worms so near the nestbox for very long. Good luck to you! Donna

Your photos are amazing! Thanks for sharing them. I wish I could get some good ones, but I'm sure I would need a better camera. This is my 1st year having bluebirds. I had five in my yard this afternoon; some were feeding on the mealworm feeder and others sitting on the birdbath. I was so happy to see them all at once. I think they may have all been fledglings, but not sure. I live in southern WI and I thought they were long gone from the area. I have not been outside much this fall (family medical issues that I have been gone from home assisting with) and had not seen them. How long do they usually stay in this area?
