Although Cerulean Warbler has a gorgeous bloom, it is not a good performer here. For the first four years I had it, it only bloomed every other year. I think I've had it for at least six years, and it has only rebloomed twice. Bud count is usually around 12. Slow multiplier too. It does appear to have made it through this harsh winter. Debra

Thank you for your responses. Have you ever looked at a word for so long, a common word, and the more you look at it, the less you are sure if it's spelt right? That's what happened with the bird. LOL. Of course it's a goldfinch, and I methodically talked myself out of it. I'm laughing, because I once did that with an ornithologist to whom I sent an image of a female red winged black bird and pulled a blank on, yet one I have seen enough to know better. The goldfinch showed up with another one who had yellowed up well, and I could see that they were identical in size, markings and all other respects. Thanks for being so polite with such a dufus question.

Yes....flew away....close your curtains or hand something over your window....at this time of the year the sun is low and many birds are on a journey and they think the window is an open passage....put something over it so they don't die. I keep curtains on my picture window that faces west closed at migration time....but this was a full view glass door, onto the deck with chairs and plants etc. Poor birdie must have thought he was goin g to fly through my kitchen and out the dining room!

I have only seen the red crown once, the little guy didn't really seem to care how close I got he kust kept doing his thing, but he was really into showing off his head feathers. On no other occasion have I seen them display like that. Of course I was at work and didn't have a camera! According to Cornell Lab of Ornithology, RCK's breed in the UP of Michigan, and all across the Canadian provinces just across the Great Lakes while they winter in the southern 1/3 of North America. I'll bet they migrate through your area between the two, but in a lot of cases, migration routes and habits are poorly understood and so they are not included in the range maps. Nevertheless, they are cool, spunky little birds that you should be excited to find! I don't see them all too often, but they are a real treat whenever I do!
