Osprey vs Mullet

I posted this over on the Raptors forum, but thought y'all might like to see this big boy/girl as well.

It sits upon the top of a Norfolk Island Pine right across the street...occasionally flying down to the canal...catching breakfast or lunch, then returning to the tree to eat the fish...head first.

I just love these guys!

Thanks for posting such a dramatic photo! Must be great to have an Osprey so close to your house to observe

Nice! I love those guys.

That bird is a male (he lacks the "necklace" females have, unless I am missing it), and he is at least 1 year old, because I see his tail is in a molt. In the first year, all juvenile hawks have feathers the same length, as they all grew together.

It was good to see you online. I've been remiss.

Nice Pic! I saw my first Osprey this year in Central Maine. I was amazed how the bird carried a small mouth bass like a torpedo tucked into it's underbelly. The Guy I was fishing with referred to it as a Fish Hawk.
