I think the chickadees, titmice and downies have had a bumper crop this year! I've never seen (or heard) so many dee-dee-dee's before, it's so fun! So far I've only seen one young red-bellied but they maybe only bringing one at a time to the feeder. And just one young cardinal - which really is not a bad thing, I can only imagine what it will be like if all 70 cardinals from last winter bring all there babies to the feeders - I'll have to take out a loan for birdseed. I've also seen house wren, phoebe and catbird fledglings. This evening I was following a spread-wing damselfly through the woods and I heard a bobwhite! We haven't had any in several years so I was really thrilled to hear it. I thought about trying to track it down but the mosquitos were eating me up alive! And the buck was stomping and snorting at me since I was standing in his bed :^)

Thank you all. matoad - the orioles adore the grapes, as do the catbirds. Some of the others pick at them, but it's mainly for orioles and catbirds. As for squirrels, we do have them, but they have to cross a fairly large expanse of lawn to get to the feeders and we have two dogs. During the winter they eat at the feeders a lot (and I don't mind) but during the summer they really stay mostly in the woods. Yes, I do have hours of enjoyment. This time of year I am always late going to work because I'm so busy watching the birds! Ann

Too small for a Brown Thrasher,and beak is too small too.It looks to be a baby Wood thrush,or a Hermit,Swainson's,or Gray cheeked.They like hanging around on the ground.Its markings will change a bit,and the corners of its beak on the sides will disappear.Robins are in the Thrush family,and you can see it looks alot like a baby Robin.

That's cool the Louisiana Waterthrush was so close to your house-around here they are so jittery I'm happy if I can get close enough for photos at all, and none have been that great so far. From April 2009 I always think I've seen all the birds species there are to see in this area, then I'll visit another habitat such as the fish hatchery and see something I've never seen.
