Swallow fledging?

I was wondering if anyone has any insight to give me peace of mind. Where I work, there are tons of birds around - from swallows, robins, sparrows, ducks, geese and more. The other day, I noticed a small baby bird sitting on the gravel in the morning. It had it's eyes closed and was kind of fluffed up. I looked around (kept my distance) and didn't see a nest near by or any other birds. I decided to carefully nudge it about 5 feet towards the fence (with gloves on) so that it wouldn't get stepped on or run over. Later that day, I noticed an adult swallow perched on the fence above it. It fluffed up and squawked at me when I walked by (the baby's parent?). Today, that little baby was gone. But there were two older looking babies near the same spot. They seemed more alert and watched me walk by. I didn't go near them. Is this just normal swallow fledging behavior? I don't know why I care so much about these little swallow babies, especially with so many around. I'm just curious! Thanks!
