Seed-eating robin

I have never seen a robin eat seeds before but I have one in my yard that has decided he likes the seeds. I had a feeder with shelled BOSS that got really wet so I dumped it out and put it in a tray to dry out. I put the tray on top of my composter and the robin comes and eats the seeds. They are quite dry from being wet and then sitting in the sun but he seems to like them. I also had a robin this spring eat all the suet that I had in a little dish on the ground. Never saw them eat suet either. He also loves the grape jelly that I put out for the orioles this spring. He cleans that up pretty good. These robins seem to have varied their diet lol. He/she also loves any raisins that I put in the feeder. Anyone else have seed-eating robins?

How nice! Who knew? They're one of my favorite birds- once I fed a seagull some crumbs, and a robin came and snatched a piece of bread and ate it! I was surprised.

Well I thought I would put some shelled BOSS in the tray that hadn't been toasted in the sun and hard to see if the robin would eat them and yes, he seems to really enjoy them. Isn't that the strangest thing!

Ohhhhhhhhh, is that interesting!!! The seed is fresh, and I never dreamed anything could "hatch" from it ... what a wonderrrr-ful lesson! Thanks very much for your replies, I deeply appreciate it! Red Robin won't hatch... Is it bad seed?

This September I planted all my seeds (my own)and very few germinated. Then I remembered a tip that has worked well for me. I took some of the same seeds, soaked them in lukewarm water for several hours and then planted them. I had a 100% germination rate from the soaked seeds. My tomato plants are healthy and happy, and I enjoy watching them grow. But as a result of non-germination of my first planting, my plants started a month later than I originally planned. Now I must wait until the end of December before tasting the first fruit. Then I will be eating fresh tomatoes until the end of May. Some plants might make it into June.
