i saw in the newpaper yesterday abut putting suet mix in a mesh bag for the hanging birds. I made a fresh bath of suet mix this morning and within minutes the siskins and chickades were after it.

Oh wow! What a great use for all those mesh bags we get from the grocery store! I'm looking forward to putting suet out this year since I live further north in FL now. Down in SW FL, where I used to live, you had to put it out in tiny little bits in bowls, because it would melt, even in the winter. I would freeze it and put it in a bowl in the feeder. The cardinals loved it!

i had to give up on the bags when the magpies or starlings are around. they a big and strong enough to tear holes in the bags and dump the stuff on the ground and then clean it up off the ground. i'll probably put suet bags or cages out in the winter for the birds then

I have also read that birds can get their little talons stuck in the mesh bags. I use a small suet cage for raw suet.
